Sound & Communications: “Upgrading the Fan Experience”
Diversified discusses the Wells Fargo Center’s new arena sound system, a key element for accelerating live event excitement.
As arenas look to upgrade their facilities to compete with newer facilities, broadcast and streaming media; technology is a key differentiator. In fact, some would say that quality sound is one of the most unifying factors for maintaining the excitement of an arena live event. With that in mind, the Wells Fargo Center, home to the Philadelphia Flyers NHL franchise and Philadelphia 76ers NBA team, embarked on a mission to deliver concert-quality audio to every seat in their arena.
For a best-in-class new arena sound system, Comcast Spectacor looked to global consultant and technology integrator Diversified, which is headquartered in Kenilworth NJ. Sound and Communications interviews Diversified and other key contributors for this incredible arena audio project.
“Arena ticket buyers today have a very clear expectation for concert-quality sound,” Diversified’s Justo Gutierrez, Director of AV and Sound, Sports and Live Events, said. “Working with the arena, our goal was to design and implement a best-in-class new arena sound system for the bowl that would surpass expectations and stimulate excitement throughout the arena.”
The challenges facing the Diversified team for implementing the new arena sound system included: finding the right manufacturer to meet the demands of contemporary arena audio, designing a best-in-class replacement for an older facility, and developing a plan to install the new system that would work around the arena’s always-busy schedule of events.
Diversified’s Sports and Live Events team is no stranger to working with owners, arena operations staff, consultants, rigging experts and manufacturers to deliver amazing new arena sound systems. Through work with other large venues including: Hard Rock Stadium, Honda Center, Los Angeles Angels and Safeco Field, Diversified has designed and implemented numerous new arena sound systems.
