House of Representatives Chamber Gets Audio Overhaul for State of the Union Address

Diversified replaces decades-old audio system in a few weeks to deliver a State of the Union audio update, all while deferring to bomb-sniffing dogs and 24-hour quality control screening.

When the legacy broadcast system in the U.S. Capitol, House of Representatives Chamber still included equipment from the early 2000s that was nearing the end of its useful life, The Architect of the Capitol (AOC) sought a new, upgraded system that reflected today’s industry standards. With decades of high-profile broadcast experience, Diversified was the obvious choice for the job and set to work on an audio overhaul to this historic site.

Having to work around Congress’s schedule and within the timeline established by AOC, Diversified’s technical professionals worked nights and weekends to make sure the job was done on time and on budget. Furthermore, with such prestige and visibility around the building itself, the pressure was on to make sure it was done right.

In 2018, Diversified was awarded a Washington Building Congress Award for its’ work at the Capitol. The project was given a perfect score and a Star Award, a special recognition given to those who show excellence in the face of adversity.

With the 2019 State of the Union upon us, Commercial Integrator has highlighted the project in this recent article, covering everything from how many speakers and microphones were involved all the way to the bomb-sniffing dogs Diversified’s team had to work around.
