Commercial Integrator: How Sports Fans’ Experiences Will Change–Whenever They’re Allowed to Return

Hoping to root on their teams again soon, find out what possible changes await fans in a post-pandemic sports season.

Just as the global pandemic has impacted so many aspects of our daily lives, how fans consume and enjoy sports is no exception. At the recent InfoComm 2020 Connected session on fan engagement, Stuart Reynolds and Justo Gutierrez of Diversified’s Sports and Live Events specialty team joined the conversation to highlight changes they see coming for this vertical.

Reynolds expects to see “a push toward more intimacy” by leveraging different camera angles and broadcast access to the sidelines, giving fans a new look at the game to keep them engaged.

“You have to figure a way to space people out in a space that’s meant to bring people together,” said Gutierrez. “Some venues are well-equipped for a lot of this, but some definitely aren’t.”

Both expect technology to play a crucial role in reshaping the new fan experience with more teams setting up overflow seating areas outside the stadium with video boards to show the action along with more TVs in the concourses, deploying temperature check kiosks at gates as fans enter, and more.
